Digital Signing for Lawyers – Secured Signing and LawHawk Join Forces

Digital signing for lawyers is now made even easier after Secured Signing and LawHawk joined forces to deliver a unique and secure solution

LawHawk and Secured Signing are both New Zealand based technology businesses. After creating unique solutions for the legal industry, the two companies quickly saw the opportunity for their customers if they collaborated and offered an integrated solution. Gene Turner, Managing Director of LawHawk said “When I first saw how the Secured Signing system works, I could tell it was a natural fit for our document automation system and something I wanted to start using. We have now built a Secured Signing integration which we can drop into any of our automated document templates so that users can automatically create Secured Signing Smart Tags”.

Smart tags are pieces of formatted text that the Secured Signing system can recognize and act on to manage the digital signing process. These smart tags can include; verification features (requiring a signer to enter their job title, or second factor identification via mobile phone codes), process management features (such as specifying a signing order, providing updates and alerts), managing multiple signatories and documents and also enabling people to sign on any mobile device. With the smart tags in place through LawHawk’s document assembly solution, the document can be assembled with the right smart tags already in place, in the right location, making it convenient to use for a range of legal documents.

Some of the risks with traditional methods of signing documents include whether the document was amended in some way before signing, and who actually signed the document. Another issue is receiving a document with an illegible signature with no other details on it to confirm who signed, what position they had, and when they signed. Lawyers often pass these risks onto their clients by adding assumptions to legal opinions on these matters. Now lawyers can use
digital signing to reduce these risks for themselves and their clients.

Mike Eyal, managing director of Secured Signing says “The benefit of using digital signatures by legal professionals is that it adds security and certainty. It is a fast and convenient way to get documents signed and the cost of digital signing is small relative to the benefits it delivers”.

With Secured Signing, you get comfort that the document hasn’t been amended. You can require that the signer inserts their job title and/or the reason why they are signing. You can even add a minimum period of time during which they have to review the document, and force them to scroll to the bottom to confirm they accept the document. If you want extra validation of identity, you can use a second factor authentication, and send the code for signing to the person’s mobile phone number. Professionals can also easily incorporate a process where the signer must record a brief video of themselves which will be linked to the video as proof of who actually signed.
